Tamworth Local Aboriginal Land Council (LALC) can assist eligible community members to access funeral assistance through the NSW Aboriginal Land Council (NSWALC). NSWALC provides a funeral assistance grant of up to $1,000 to support Aboriginal families during Sorry Business. This grant is available for Members of a NSW Local Aboriginal Land Council, regardless of where they live or are buried, or Aboriginal people known within the community or verified by a member of the LALC Board.
Payments are made directly to the funeral service provider. Please check other Terms and Conditions on the NSWALC website via the link provided.
Applications require completion of a NSWALC Funeral Grant Claim Form, along with supporting documentation including a funeral invoice and evidence of death.
Tamworth LALC can assist community members to access the Aboriginal Funeral Transport Program, managed by Chandler Macleod Managed Training Services (MTS). This program helps Aboriginal people attend Sorry Business within NSW when travel costs may otherwise be a barrier.
Eligible applicants can receive help with return public transport tickets, fuel subsidies (up to 50%), or group transport.
